About this project

BDC has been appointed by Malabar Gold & Diamonds to provide ongoing support for the construction team throughout the refurbishment of their new commercial property in Leicester. This building spans a basement level and two additional floors. Following an initial structural assessment, it was identified that parts of the basement and floors would require reinforcement to ensure the stability and load-bearing capacity needed for the planned upgrades.

To achieve this, new foundations were required in specific areas. The structural design had to integrate these new elements alongside the existing foundation layout and basement structure, presenting unique coordination challenges, particularly with respect to load distribution, space utilisation, and alignment with the original structure. Through close collaboration between BDC’s design teams, the contractor, and Malabar’s project manager, these challenges were addressed efficiently, ensuring a seamless alignment with the new layout requirements and securing the structural integrity of the property.

In addition to structural enhancements, the refurbishment project incorporates modern materials and technology upgrades, setting the stage for a high-quality commercial environment.
