BDC was engaged as Structural Engineering consultants to undertaken a survey, report and validation on Brickwork Structural Support Exercise to provide an assessment of whether the above blocks at Forth Valley Hospital are in a safe condition based upon the survey information.

The works included:

  • Receive (issued to us by post or electronic transfer) and review record information relating to As Built form of the building. This will include Engineers and Architects drawings and specifications to detail location of masonry support, masonry specification, any masonry reinforcement, brick ties, cavity dimensions and masonry support locations.
  • Visit site to undertake a visual inspection of the brickwork cladding and highlight any areas of concern, identify likely areas to review on record information and assess site access limitations for physical investigation.
  • Based upon a review of the record information and results of the initial visual inspection prepare a scope for investigation including scanning of the brick façade to determine if masonry reinforcement and ties are evident at the expected centres/locations.
  • Based upon initial site visit, a review of record information and the scanning results, scope localised physical opening up works to validate the as built details and investigate any particular areas of concern.
  • Undertake a site inspection if required to compare the as built records to the survey findings from the opening up works and report on any areas of concern and or recommend further works.
  • Provide a Written Report.
  • Provide Immediate Notification to the Project Manager if during the surveys if any area is believed or proven to be unsafe.
