About this project

St james Hospital Leeds opened the Bexley Wing, in 2008 which houses the St James’s Institute of Oncology. It’s one of Europe’s largest cancer centres, and includes the Gamma Knife Centre, which is home to the world’s most advanced Gamma Knife. The building is one of Europe’s largest cancer centres, with 1,600 staff and 350 beds. The Bexley Wing was designed to maximize natural light and visual links to the city, and to integrate radiotherapy, haematology, and research.

BDC were commissioned to undertake a forensic investigation into failures and reported defects in the cladding to the recently opened extension including review and analysis construction details and record drawings, façade access surveys of the building fabric and review of failed cladding.

BDC role included liaison with original construction team and the associated 3rd party designers to determine the cause and suitable remedial details.

Our role also included attendances and inspections of the works.
